Earlier this month in Cedar Creek, a six-vehicle accident on Texas 21 caused the highway to be shut down for four hours while emergency crews cleared the scene. According to a report by the Austin American Statesman, the accident occurred near FM 535 and involved two semi-trucks and four cars. Apparently, a semi-truck collided into the rear of a pick-up truck that was towing a camper trailer and was stopped waiting to make a turn off the highway into a private residence.
Once the pick-up was rear-ended, it was sent into the oncoming lane of traffic and was struck by another semi-truck carrying lumber. The lumber came loose and ended up on all over the highway, damaging a number of other vehicles. One driver had to be cut out from his vehicle. Another driver was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. All other injuries were minor.
Truckers and Negligent Driving
Police have not determined who was a fault in the accident above. However, it is entirely possible that the truck driver who slammed into the rear of the pick-up was distracted and did not see the pick-up stopped on the highway. This would be a classic example of distracted driving; how else could a driver fail to see a pick-up truck towing a camper stopped in the middle of the road?
