I was delighted to drive out to a client’s work place yesterday to deliver settlement documents (and another loan) to rush through her funds in a hard fought case against a drunk driver.
My wonderful client was hit on Highway 377 (Denton Highway) in Haltom City about three months ago. She suffered the typical cervical and lumbar injuries but did not treat other than at the emergency room, where testing was negative, and six times at a chiropractor, and fortunately she is fine now. Her medical bills were only about $3,000.00 and she had very little lost wages.
I realize that there was not much visible damage to the rear of my client’s car, but I was able to prove that there was structural damage to the frame. Just as I was about to file a lawsuit, the other driver’s company agreed to my demand to pay the at fault driver’s entire policy limit, so a suit was unnecessary.
When I told my client that I had been able to force the other insurance company to pay the entire limits of the other driver’s policy, she said “OMG! You’re kidding. Wow! I’m speechless. This is SO much more money that I ever expected. Wow. I can’t thank you enough!”
I am handling a lot of DWI cases and this is a pretty typical response.
I relish suing these drunk drivers. It is wrong that they choose to drink and drive and crash into other innocent people. I am proud that I am one of the only Mothers Against Drunk Drivers approved attorneys in Tarrant County, and MADD is one of my favorite charities. I’m proud to be a sponsor of their walks in Fort Worth and Dallas.
