The Fourth of July weekend is always the deadliest time to be driving on our Texas highways.
Last year there were 337 collisions involving alcohol. In 2011, the most recent year with statistics reported by the Texas Department of Transportation, 48 occurred just in the four days around the holiday and 56 people were tragically killed.
To combat the deadly wave of DWIs, local police and DPS troopers will be out in force beginning tomorrow and continuing through July 7th. Last year they arrested 1.300 people for DW over the three day weekend.
North Texas law enforcement agencies are again adopting a no refusal policy where those suspected of drunken driving who won’t take a breath test or give a blood sample will be arrested and a warrant will be obtained to determine their blood alcohol level.

Drive in the right lane. Many times drunk drivers drift out of their lane or into oncoming traffic.
Avoid late night driving.
Choose a designated driver.
If there is a young driver in your family, enforce a zero tolerance policy.
Never get in the car with an intoxicated driver.
Avoid aggressive driving by keeping your emotions in check and focusing on your own driving.
