As a 5th year Presenting Sponsor and a Fort Worth injury lawyer who unfortunately sees many drunk and drugged driving crash cases, I support Mothers Against Drunk Driving in its fight to stop this deadly problem.MADD is the only organization that provides victim support, judicial and legislative reform, technology research, and education to curtail drunk and drugged driving.
The Walk Like MADD is its signature fund raiser, memorial, and rallying cry. The atmosphere is one of sadness, love, and hope.
I always leave feeling like we can make a difference and defeat the deadly drunk driving epidemic that has inflicted our roads in Texas. There is no reason that we should be the #1 state for the number of people who die from DWI crashes.
It’s not too late to form a team of family members, neighbors, or coworkers. And I will match the registration fee in a donation to MADD for anybody who lets me know he or she has signed up.
The walk takes place in the Botanic Garden down the street from my office Saturday morning at 8:30.

Why I support Mothers Against Drunk Driving
I have focused my law practice on auto and truck crashes for close to four decades. I see how they can injure and sometimes maim and kill drivers and am angry because they are caused by criminals.
The good news is that drunk driving fatalities have dropped since Candy Lightner, whose daughter was killed by a repeat drunk driving offender, formed the group in 1980. Another founder’s daughter was crippled soon after that in a drunk driving collision and other mothers joined them.
Since then, hundreds of thousands of people have walked in over 90 cities and raised millions of dollars.
As a result. 350,000 lives have been saved due to stricter laws and enforcement and more education and awareness about this deadly issue.
But we still have a long way to go. Today one-third of accident deaths are still attributed to drunk driving, equal to more than 10,000 deaths every year.
According to MADD, about two out of every three persons will be affected by an intoxicated driver at some point in their lives. And every two minutes, a person is injured in a DWI collision.
DWI and DUI remains an enormous problem in the United States — especially here in Texas.
MADD has played a central role in making our roads and highways safer for all of us. I am glad to make this commitment to an organization that has truly helped our community.
I look forward to seeing you at Walk Like MADD on Saturday. If you cannot attend, you can make a donation here.
