Nevada Man Injured in Semi Truck Accident on the Highway

Earlier this week, a Nevada man was injured when the semi truck that he was driving next to made a sharp turn into his vehicle. According to a report by the local CBS affiliate, the driver of the car and the semi-truck were both heading south on a popular highway in Yerington, Nevada when the semi truck prepared to make a right by swinging into the center lane. As the truck entered the center lane, the driver, who was directly behind the semi truck, didn’t slow down and clipped the passenger-rear side of the truck, pinning the vehicle under the truck.

The driver of the car sustained serious injuries and was flown to a nearby hospital. He is currently in fair condition. His wife sustained minor injuries. The truck driver was not injured.

Texas Truck Drivers Sometimes Drive As Though They Rule The Road

Merely because they have the largest vehicles on the road, some Texas truck drivers feel as though they own the road. This is evidenced in the following ways:

  • Cutting off drivers
  • Failing to signal when changing lanes
  • Driving at inappropriate speeds (both too fast and too slow)
  • Tailgating; and
  • Aggressive driving

However, the truth is that semi-truck drivers have only the same right as everyone else on the road to be there. In fact, drivers of large commercial vehicles actually have additional responsibilities that they must attend to in order to be in compliance with the law.

Requirements That All Texas Drivers Must Meet in Order to Legally Operate Commercial Trucks

Truck drivers in all states must comply with a number of requirements, mostly for safety’s sake. For example, all truck drivers must do the following:

  • In order to drive a commercial truck, a driver must obtain a commercial driver’s license.
  • A log of all hours driven must be kept to ensure that the driver is properly rested at all times.
  • Cargo must be under a certain weight, depending on the size and type of the truck in order to ensure safe operation of the truck.

Have You Been Involved in a Texas Truck Accident?

If you or a loved one has recently been the victim of a semi truck or tractor trailer accident, you may be able to recover monetary damages related to your loss or injuries. Often times, accidents happen because one or more rules are not complied with, whether those rules happen to be traffic laws or regulatory requirements. When a truck driver ignores the rules and causes an accident, that driver can be held responsible for his actions in a court of law. The Law Offices of William K.
