Law Enforcement Reminds Drivers to Slow Down
One person died and two people were injured in a three-car collision in Arlington on Monday morning. The crash occurred at 7:30 a.m. on Fielder Road at the intersection of Park Row Drive. The driver of an SUV was speeding in the northbound lane and swerving in and out of traffic as he approached the intersection. When the light turned red, the SUV driver failed to stop and rammed into a vehicle turning left from the southbound lane. The SUV went airborne before ramming into a second vehicle and slamming into a utility pole.
The driver of the SUV was killed in the crash and the two other drivers suffered injuries. The crash knocked out power to the intersection for most of the day. Traffic was diverted throughout the day until power could safely be restored at what is described as one of the busiest intersections in the city.
Arlington Police Employ New Drones to Investigate Crash Site
Investigation of the fatal crash is one of the first in Arlington to involveĀ drones. The Arlington Police Department recently acquired the unmanned helicopters to take high-quality aerial video footage and photographs of auto accident scenes, fires and criminal matters. According to an Arlington Police Department spokesperson, the drones are helpful in a case like Monday’s fatal car wreck because the debris was spread over a wide area. The images taken from the drones may aid in investigating the cause of the accident and in determining potential ways of improving motorists’ safety at the intersection.
A Reminder That No Appointment is That ImportantĀ
In response to the crash, Arlington Police Department Sgt. Christopher Cook reminded drivers to slow down and be careful:
“No matter how late you are to work, or wherever, it’s never worth your life or getting involved in a crash. So we always remind everyone to drive the speed limit, obey the safety laws and get to your location safely.”
What could this guy have been thinking? No appointment is that important that a driver should risk her or his own life and the safety of others.
