Supporting Two Great Causes

Children in Cowtown Marathon | Fort Worth Personal Injury Lawyer | Berenson Injury Law

Today the Cowtown Marathon generously brought its C.A.L.F. children’s run to the school that I have sponsored for the past 17 years. The kids were excited to run or walk several laps around the school and compete against each other.

The P.E. teacher said they had been training for weeks and that their play and sports have been very restricted due to Covid-19. It is hard to imagine how difficult the pandemic has been on them (and on their parents and teachers).

It was very thoughtful that our wonderful Mayor Betsy Price took the time to come to show her support. Last evening, she led another Rolling Town Hall where she answered the questions of residents — all on bicycles! I doubt there is another city that does this. She is not running for reelection after 10 years and we will all miss her.

Cowtown came up with that clever acronym of C.A.L.F. (Children’s Activities for Life & Fitness). Its nationally ranked program has taught children across North Texas to run and adopt healthy habits that will help them lead long, productive lives.

Each year C.A.L.F. gives away running shoes, socks, and entries into its 5K (3.1 mile) race to over 5,000 children. The special race usually takes place the last weekend in February. However this year it unfortunately had to be postponed until next year, making today even more special.

The children were excited to get medals, shoes, two pairs of running socks, those red shirts and masks, refreshments, and other gifts. It was like Christmas in April!

Last year the Marathon was named as the best one in the U.S It beat the Boston Marathon (that I hope to run in October) in the final round in a March Madness competition.

Today’s event is just one of the many ways that we are blessed to live in Fort Worth.
