Police are still searching for the driver of a Mazda Tribute who was involved in the hit-and-run accident that killed a U.S. Marine on Texas Highway 183 in Irving.
The driver of the Mazda hit Evan Sanchey as he was walking across the street and sped off without stopping. Evan was rushed to the hospital, but the doctors were unfortunately unable to save him.
Hit-and-run accidents often happen when the person driving does not have auto insurance. At least 25% of Texans are now driving without auto insurance, even though it is required by state law. We have seen far too many cases when we think the negligent driver is insured because he has proof of insurance at the scene. However, he may have only made the first month’s payment merely to obtain an insurance card, had the policy voided by other circustances, or the insurance card may have been a fake.

What if you’re in a wreck with an uninsured driver? The first question you must answer is, do you have Uninsured Motorist coverage on your own auto insurance policy? Uninsured Motorist (“UM”) coverage is insurance you buy to protect yourself in case you’re in a wreck with an uninsured driver. It covers the repair to your vehicle, your medical bills, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
As an experienced personal injury lawyer, often locate insurance policies that people otherwise would not know were available. Last year, I represented a man that was hit by an uninsured motorist. He was not paying for UM coverage on his auto insurance policy, but when his insurance company wasn’t able to produce the appropriate documents, I was able to force them to extend $27,500.00 worth of coverage. His case settled for the full $27,500.00 that was available. When I told him the good news, he said “Thank you so much. Without you I wouldn’t have gotten anything”
