Early this morning around 5:00 o’clock a.m., one driver hit another car stopped on Interstate 30 east of downtown Dallas. A third driver swerved so she wouldn’t crash into the two vehicles and tragically was killed as she drove into the path of a tractor-trailer.
Earlier this week in Arlington, a cement truck was involved in a fortunately non-injury accident when one of the truck’s tires blew out, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle. But what if the truck had swerved into oncoming traffic or crashed into other cars and trucks or other drivers had run into the truck?
According to a report by CBS-11, the cement truck was heading east on Highway 360 by Interstate 30 around 3:30 in the morning when the accident occurred. Evidently the truck was driving in the HOV lane, which is under construction. Its driver failed to see a piece of rebar that was left in the road by a construction crew.
Running over the metal bar caused one of the tires on the truck to blow out, resulting in the driver losing control of the truck. The truck crashed, rolling over onto its side, and came to a rest against a concrete barrier.
Truck Accidents in Texas
With all the new growth going on in and around the Dallas/Fort Worth area, there is bound to be an increase in truck traffic of all kind. Cement trucks, perhaps more than any other kind of truck, will have their numbers increase more drastically due to the burgeoning construction in the DFW area.
These giants of the road can pose a particular danger to motorists due to their size and the difficultly drivers have controlling the huge vehicles when something goes wrong, as it did in this case. Luckily, the accident described above occurred in the middle of the night when the highway was empty. However, that will not always be the case. Each year hundreds of Texans are injured or killed in truck accidents across the state in wrecks just like this one.
Fault in Texas Truck Accidents
Determining who is at fault in Texas truck accidents is not always an easy task. While fault is often attributed to the driver of the truck and the company owning the vehicle and employing the driver, it can also reside with a third party. For instance, if a construction crew negligently left a piece of metal bar in the middle of the highway, and that caused the accident, the construction company may be liable for the accident and any property damage or personal injuries arising from the accident.
